Well, today we spent most of the afternoon hauling all of our food up from the shelves in the basement and stacking it on some other shelves (which were also brought up from the basement) in the dining room. Of course, it's not really ALL of our food; a good portion of it is already in cupboards in the kitchen. We still have a few things left to get done; most importantly, switching frozen foods like meat and bread from the downstairs deep-freeze to the freezer upstairs, so we have access to it in the event that our basement floods. Other than that, we're pretty much ready. Our bags are packed, and we've got tubs of food and water ready to go in the van at a moment's notice.
They are now thinking that the river will crest as early as Thursday, but maybe not quite so high, since we didn't get as much rain as expected. However, we are supposed to get three or so inches of snow tonight, so we'll see how that goes. We spent a few hours yesterday out sandbagging with some friends, and it was good to be able to feel like you're making some sort of a difference. The high schools and colleges all canceled classes so kids could get out and help, so Dad was able to help, too.

Those of you familiar with the permanent dike by Island Park, this is how far up the river is as of tonight. I'm standing on the top of the dike, and the water is only ten or so feet below it. Yikes.
